Our traditional myrmecological event will be held in Belo Horizonte - Minas Gerais, between September 30 and October 4, 2019.
The purpose of the Simpósio de Mirmecologia is to bring together students and professionals interested in the area of myrmecology in Brazil and other countries, to stimulate interactions, and to offer to the students of various undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the country the opportunity to exhibit and discuss yours works and projects with the community of myrmecologists. More specifically, the event aims to integrate the various areas of scientific knowledge that contribute to the advancement of myrmecology; to enable the exchange of knowledge between researchers from different brazilian states and also from other countries; stimulate the establishment of technical-scientific partnerships and multi-institutional research arrangements, through the direct contact of researchers; contribute to the training of undergraduate and graduate students; to consolidate Brazil as a research and development center in the area of myrmecology, and more generally, in the area of ecology and conservation; analyze the advances, identify the challenges and discuss the future development of the area in Brazil.
The Simpósio de Mirmecologia, formerly called the Myrmecology Meeting, was born from the intention of gathering the ants specialists from the State of São Paulo - Brazil to discuss their work. Over the years, these meetings became more comprehensive and, from a meeting held in Londrina-PR, in 2001, the event was called the Simpósio de Mirmecologia. This event then became an important forum for discussion of works directly related to myrmecology, with relevant contributions to ecology and biodiversity conservation areas.
The XXIV Edition - 2019
We arrived at the 24th edition of Mirmeco! It is really an important mark for Brazilian and world myrmecology to have an event of so much tradition in Brazilian boundaries. Therefore, we are pleased to invite everyone to participate in the XXIV Symposium on Myrmecology, to be held between September 30 and October 4, 2019 at the Federal University of Minas Gerais - Campus Pampulha - in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. This biennial event aims to encourage and disseminate research on tropical fauna, particularly neotropical ants. It brings together experts from Brazil and abroad, and professionals and students who use ants as research models in important areas of biology, such as taxonomy, systematics and biogeography, animal behavior and behavioral ecology, plant / animal interactions, population and community ecology, bioindication, bioinvasion, and evolutionary biology. Thus, this event reflects a faithful portrayal of the growing commitment of the Brazilian scientific community in these important areas, as well as the significant and growing contribution of this scientific community to the progress of these areas. A clear sign of this is the marked internationalization of the Symposium on Myrmecology, particularly in its last editions, which were marked by an increasingly important participation of colleagues from other countries, attracted by the quality of research developed in Brazil and interested in developing professional ties with Brazilian colleagues.
It is in this very positive and inspiring context that we are striving to offer a program that meets the expectations of all professionals and students in the field and that is of a nature to encourage discussions, new ideas and directions, as well as providing a favorable framework for reviewing the friends, make new contacts and expand professional ties. We are in Belo Horizonte!
